The Chateau is located in a wine
producing area and the local co-operative
Plaimont
producers have a field of vines by the lake and not that far from the
Chateau. Their wine is very drinkable and they have a large shop where
they can be purchased in Plaisance. The wine from the near area is
called St Mont.
Slightly further a field is the
Madiran
area. These wines are robust tannic
reds that age well. An enjoyable day can be spent visiting
some of the producers and tasting the wines.
North of the Chateau is Condon which is
the centre of the Armagnac production area. Several of the
producers are open to the public for tasting, it is worth checking
before hand when the opening hours are.
This is a lovely area of France and is
often referred to as Gascony. Marciac is in the Gers Department of
France. The area is well know for its food and wine. Marciac
is about 1hr away from Pau which was a popular resort destinations for
the Victorians and a lovely place to visit. The Pyrenees mountains
are about 2 hour drive away and are often visible from the
Chateau; in the spring it is possible to go on a day trip skiing in the
mountains.
